Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom Tooth Removal North Sydney

Our soft modern diets mean our jaws are developing to be smaller. As a result, many people’s jaws are not large enough for their wisdom teeth. This leads to a problem called impaction.

Wisdom teeth usually begin to erupt between the ages of 17 and 25, although we have come across a few patients whose wisdom teeth haven’t begun to grow through until much older! If wisdom teeth become impacted, they can cause pain and infection. They can even damage nearby teeth.

In order to decide if your wisdom teeth need to be removed (some come through with no difficulty), Dr. Edwina at Mcmahons point Health, North Sydney will need to examine you and see a scan of your teeth. An OPG or a CBCT scan are the best scans for checking wisdom teeth.

With extensive surgical experience, you know you are in safe hands with Dr Edwina. If you are nervous, you can choose to take a sedative before your surgery, have happy gas (nitrous oxide) or IV sedation. Recovery usually only takes a few days, so you may want to take a day or two off work. You will need to eat a soft diet for a week after surgery.

* Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Speak to Dr Edwina to determine if this treatment is right for you.
