At McMahons Point Dental, we will put you at ease from the minute you enter the practice so that your treatment can be completed while you feel comfortable. Our boutique practice is decorated in a way that means it does not look like dental surgery, and it helps you to feel calm when you enter. Your smell is a powerful sense, so you will be pleased to hear that McMahons Point Dental does not smell like a dentist as we know this can be off-putting for our patients.

While you are having your dental implant, you have the option of cuddling our therapy dog, Chloe. Stroking the fur of an animal can help to calm and relax you. What’s more, we know it is the small things that count, and while you are with us, we have put little things in place that can make all the difference. When you go to the bathroom, you can enjoy the use of luxury hand soaps and moisturisers. When you are in the chair, you can make use of pillows and blankets, as well as warm scented towels. You may even be tricked into thinking you are at the spa and not the dentist!

If you want to switch off from what is going on, why not catch up on your favourite Netflix show? Our dental chair comes complete with a TV screen to offer you welcome distraction when your dental implant is being put in place.

What Is a Dental Implant?

Dental Implants are considered the “gold standard” for missing teeth. They look and feel just like a natural tooth, without attaching to adjacent teeth.

The term “dental implant” actually refers to the titanium screw placed inside your jaw that fixes the dental crown in place. Titanium dental implants have the unique ability to fuse with living bone, making them strong and long- lasting. Implant crowns are usually made from porcelain or ceramic in a layering technique that makes them appear extraordinarily natural.

McMahons Point Dental offers dental implants to residents of North Sydney and surrounding areas as a fixed, long-lasting and natural-looking solution to missing teeth, greatly improving the quality of life for many patients. Our North Sydney dentist team is highly experienced and provides great care for patients seeking dental implants in Crows Nest, St Leonards, Kirribilli and North Sydney.

Advantages of Dental Implants

The greatest advantage of replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant is how natural it looks and feels. The implant literally takes the place of your missing tooth, restoring it to complete function. Dental implants are fixed in your jaw so you don’t have to worry about them falling out, or bother with removing them and cleaning them as you would a denture.

Our North Sydney Dentist Dr Edwina uses dental implants made of medically pure titanium that fuses to the bone, preventing bone loss. This avoids gum recession around nearby teeth and can help maintain the facial structure that is lost when you are missing teeth.

How much do dental implants Cost?

It is difficult to say how much your dental implant treatment will cost, as every case is different and has different requirements. Get in touch with your local dentist Dr Edwina at McMahons Point Dental to schedule a consultation so we can discuss treatment options and prices with you.

How Long Will the Implants Last?

The dental implant itself will usually last for the rest of your life. The implant components such as the screws and crowns may need intermittent maintenance or repair and will most likely need replacement every 10 to 15 years.

How is it done?

Dental implant surgery is carried out under local anaesthesia. IV sedation (sleep dentistry) or anxiety relief are used if required. The implant is placed in your jaw and left for approximately 3 months to fuse to the bone before the crown is attached. The healing time depends on the bone density at the site of the lost tooth. Once the fusion is successful, our North Sydney dental surgeon Dr Edwina will fit a tooth-coloured crown onto the implant.

With a dental implant, you’ll never have to worry about decay or root canals. However, you should still remain vigilant about gum disease. Avoid gum disease by flossing and brushing daily and seeing your dentist for regular professional cleans every six months. Teeth clenching or grinding can also be hazardous, so you may need to wear a night guard while you sleep.

All surgical procedures carry potential risks. Dr Edwina can discuss these risks with you in depth. Contact McMahons Point Dental, your local North Sydney Dentistry clinic to determine if dental implants are right for you.
