Dental Crowns & Bridges
Is your tooth discoloured, cracked or broken? Dental crowns and bridges might be the right option for you.
Our professional dentists in North Sydney may recommend a dental crown to restore the weaker part of a tooth or a crown to fix the structure of your tooth.
What Is a Dental Crown?
Dental Crowns are coverings for the entire visible part of the tooth. They are used when teeth are broken, old and large fillings are lost, or if your teeth are badly decayed or severely discoloured. Dental crowns are great for improving the appearance of your natural teeth and can brighten your smile.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges replace missing teeth. A dental bridge is a false tooth, fused between two porcelain crowns to fill in the area left by a missing tooth. The two crowns holding it in place are attached to teeth on each side of the false tooth.
Why Dental Crowns and Bridges Are Important
Dental crowns and bridges can be used to:
- Strengthen a damaged tooth
- Improve tooth appearance, shape or alignment
- Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a discoloured or poorly shaped tooth
- Cover a tooth after root canal treatment
Dental Crowns and Bridges Treatment
At an appointment with Dr Toulmin, one of our dentists at McMahons Point Dental, we will assess your teeth and discuss your needs and requirements. This will help us determine if a dental crown and/or bridge is the best solution.
If a crown is a right option, we will talk you through the process. Normally we will take an impression of the tooth as well as the rest of your mouth to ensure that your new crown will fit and your bite is in proper alignment with the other teeth in your mouth. Models are then custom-made according to your specifications.
When your crown is ready, it will be non-invasively fixed in place and you will have a brand new, functioning tooth.
